The assumption is that you already have a MOE or Mil-Spec type hand-guard. They are assuming you have a standard Mil-Spec barrel nut already installed on the barrel. I think most of the aftermarket ar rail system manufacturers have their proprietary barrel nut, which usually aids in installation. I had to get the rail to figure out it didn't come with a barrel nut. It was a "batteries not included" level of frustration.
